bi-polar??

Question

has anyone ever dealt with someone or had a spouse who may be bipolar? I've always felt like my husband may be but he will never admit to it. I love him dearly but sometimes I don't know how to deal with the extreme ups and downs in our relationship. he can be the nicest most loving man in the world, or your worst nightmare. if something sets him off, watch out, and it's always directed towards me. he is starting to do things that I strongly disagree with in front of our 2 year old when he gets a bad temper, like swear at me and call.me names etc. I'm sad  and I don't know how to handle this. Just looking for advice maybe from anyone who was dealt with something similar

I’m in a similar boat. My husband’s mother is definitely bipolar. She was recently diagnosed. And I think my husband definitely has some bipolar tendencies too. His happiness is often euphoric. But when something sets his temper off (usually when he’s crossed that fine line of tipsy and drunk) he will fly off the handle, rant and rave and not hear anything the other person is trying to say. We never fight between ourselves, we manage to handle disagreements calmly, but when other people piss him off (namely his immediate family, there’s a lot of issues and resentment their from his childhood) I have to get him out quick and then have to listen to the rants all the way home and often for several hours and weeks afterward 😩. He used to punch things when he’d have these meltdowns. Almost every door in our house has had a fist through it over the last five years. But he’s definitely settled a lot since having our daughter in March this year. He knows I won’t try to be there for him and calm him if he loses his shit now, I’ll just take our daughter and leave because she’s my main responsibility now, not him. He’s cut back on his drinking too, which was probably 90% of why he always reacted so strongly when an issue came up. And he’s been talking about seeing a councillor too.
I’d say if your husband isn’t prepared to seek help or try to improve for yours and his daughter’s sake, then maybe you need to leave. Put the fear in him that if he doesn’t change you’re not going to stick around. Because really, how much longer can you go on like this? Knowing that the older and more aware your daughter gets the more she will interpret his behaviour toward you as appropriate because it’s just her norm? I’m sorry you’re in this situation, and I really hope it improves 😔

There's a huge difference between being bipolar and having anger problems though, it sounds like he might just need anger management

i have bipolar and i know i make it hard on my husband but he's there for me every step. id say try to get him to see what your saying. talk with him see if he'll go see a therapist. there is medication he can take but first you got to get him to see he has a problem and that it isn't his fault. it is passed down through families. but if he accepts help he will get better.
