Did you even think about the fact you were in a IR relationship?

My husband and I had been together for 3 years before I even realized we were categorized as IR. I never really thought about it and no one brought it up. It wasnt until a coworker thanked me in the break room for "being progressive" and how proud she was of me being in an interracial marriage. It threw me through a loop and made me feel weird that she was that focused our race and nothing else. Has anyone else had this experience?

Yes, I thought about it. My husband had never before been with a black woman and we were in a very racist environment. We heard comments every single day about how he should leave that black bitch, how are you going to take a half n****r baby home, etc. I was always very aware of the fact that I was in an interracial relationship. I didn't care. It didn't cause me to doubt my partner, myself, or what we shared, but it was definitely regularly thought about.

I didn't realize it until after we broke up! I'm Chinese but I was adopted and raised by a white family. Majority of my friends are white. So it's not like I thought I was white, I'm just not used to noticing the difference any mor. and then we were talking one day and he says "I noticed that we used to get looks from people when we went out and  I'm pretty sure it's because I'm white and your Chinese" and I was like " that thought has never even crossed my mind."

It never really dawned on me... family friends would tease me and call him “tu güerito novio” (your white boyfriend) but it was never said maliciously or kid mentally- that’s just how they knew him. Because he’s blond hair with blue eyes and light skin, and I’m brown with brown hair and brown eyes. I mean, sometimes i would be reminded- some of his distant relatives made some comments about “how beautiful his Latina girlfriend is” and “her skin tone is lovely”- they weren’t trying to be rude but i seriously felt like a dog at a dog show being analyzed... but I always end up forgetting about it next minute. His parents have never treated me with any form of racism- they say I’m their daughter (love them) and my parents never made him feel unwanted in our Mexican culture, in fact they live including him. Definitely interracial but I seriously always forget we are, together 5&1/2 years.

We’ve always been aware we were. it’s kind of funny because  3/4 of our couple friends are swirls (that’s what we call mixed couples and my bump baby Swirl) which just kind of happened because of their love of Mustangs. When we’re all together we do get looks but you can’t help the ignorance of others.

Nope. I never specifically looked for certain races when I talked to someone. I just want them to make me laugh mainly lol. 😁

I'm a snow white American and my husband is an Indian immigrant with a very dark complexion. If we forget about it - others will absolutely remind us lol.

I am lucky to live in a pretty accepting part of the world... growing up black in Canada has not been hard at all-- for me at least. well I'm of mixed race technically but I identify as black.  I've had very few racist experiences. my current BAE is white, and it didn't feel uncomfortable to me at all. my parents are in a i.r. relationship so that obviously plays a role in why I'm not really cognizant about it. I to me it's normal.... 
interracial relationships are quiet common in Canada as we are very multicultural.
honestly maybe people do stare at my BAE and I when we are out and about but I barely even notice because my attention is on him. i love him and am thankful I found him. I don't care what anyone thinks, love is love.
** in my 22 years I've only dated two men ( my ex and my current BAE)  and they are both white.

Sometimes, we are also from different countries so that is a bigger difference than race for us.
