Is it ever okay for your friend to talk crap about you?

I found out today whom I thought was my bestfriend talks shit about me and it's really so disappointing and upsetting because I've never not been loyal to her, I always have her back and defend her to others. I confronted her assertively today about it and she tried turning it around and pinning it all on me. Idk if I should just drop her or forgive her (again).

My best friend and I shit talk each other, but only to each other. It's banter. Actively saying bad things about each other to others is awful

If I did something shitty, and they needed to blow off steam to another person in a truthful manner, I would not be mad. If I did nothing wrong and they are lying, I would be mad.

they aren’t your real friends sorry. Don’t talk to them anymore. I cut out all my “best friends” in high school, they weren’t good people at all. now i have zero cuz i’m my own friend lol
