HELP! Baby won’t open his mouth to eat solids!😫

M

My son will be 7 months tomorrow and he is EBF. We started solids exactly at 6 months. So far we’ve tried rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, sweet potato, pumpkin, plum, apple, banana, mango, turkey and some other purees. Each new one we introduced with four days in between to make sure there isn’t a reaction.

He hasn’t been very enthusiastic about eating solids at all but for a while I could get him to smile or laugh which is when he would open his mouth and I would put a little bit of food in. He always makes a face like it’s sour and then swallows it with a grossed out look. He has never spit any of it out. He just looks really disgusted with it. After one month of this, he now won’t open his mouth even to smile or laugh. He does it with his mouth closed, seals it tight and moves his head away. I don’t want to force it but now I am unable to get even a little bit in for him to try.

He does reach out for the spoon but just squishes the food in his fingers but never attempts to put it in his mouth. He does try to put the spoon in his mouth but only if it’s empty because he wants to chew on it.

I have tried the puree feeder (it’s like a big hollow pacifier with a hole at the bottom for the food to come out). Once he put it in his mouth and the food came out he immediately made a disgusted look and would refuse to take it from now on.

I also attempted a BLW approach. Gave him a piece of apple and he played with it in his hands but refused to take it anywhere near his mouth. Which is weird since he tries to put everything in his mouth now.

I was really hoping that after one month of feeding solids we would be on the way of trying more foods but we have not progressed at all and now he seems to hate it. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?
