Adult siblings and Christmas gifts?

👩🏻‍💼

Hey all!

So my siblings and I are in a huge disagreement about changing our Christmas "traditions".

As kids, we were blessed with the financial situation to have lots of presents to open on Christmas. I have two older brothers, so there were three kids tearing into gifts.

But now, as adults (I'm 27 and the youngest, oldest 34) my oldest brother wants to continue this. I've begged my family to do away with gifting among adults and make the gifting all about kids (currently just my 3 y/o niece). Or if we do a gift exchange, keep it small.

My middle brother agrees with me. But my oldest brother and his wife are ALL ABOUT the presents. Idk what to do? It's so juvenile and it sucks because I want to bring my boyfriend for Christmas, my brother wants to bring his girlfriend. But neither of us want to make them sit there while our family does his huge, childish, awkward gift exchange.

How did your family handle this kind of thing?

I'm not ungrateful. I love my family and I feel blessed. I just want to simplify Christmas and make it about a meal shared together with gifts for kids only.
