why won't he propose

We've been together over 6 years. Own a house and have just had a baby. The midwife was makin comments as to why we're not married and that there's no excuses to not have a ring and it's made me feel very insecure. He always says in a few years to people but it's right what the midwife has said, if he's thinking about getting married then why hasn't he proposed. 
I don't want to be an old bride or be that person that will have to say my boyfriend rather than husband when I'm much older. 
What's your advice girls and boys.

I finally just had to break it down and say look I want to be married. It’s what will make me happy. We were married within the year. It’s like he just didn’t realize because it wasn’t as important to him? But it’s all good now 👍🏼 Just talk to him and good luck girl. I hope he asks soon.

I can totally relate. I was with the father of my kids over 10yrs and he never asked me to marry him. His excuse usually was "it's like we're already married". Finally I got it through my head that it was never going to happen. And if that's what you want and he doesn't, you need to decide if you're willing to give up that dream or look for someone who will marry you. Good luck!

Every couple is different and others shouldn’t be making those types of comments but since you are asking for opinions, if I was in your situation I would probably have a hard time spending 6 years with someone and no marriage. I can’t help but wonder if he really sees the point? After 6 years, a house and a baby what would be the point of getting married when he already got some of the gifts that come from marriage? But that’s just my opinion. I suggest talking to him and just be honest about what you are wanting from life.

Just curious, did you talk to him? Did you get any feed back? I’m in the same position. Been with my boyfriend for almost 8 years, own a house, ttc for 2 years, all of it but still no ring. It makes me feel terrible too. Like he thinks I’m “not good enough” or something. I don’t think they understand how important it is to us unfortunately.

My first thought is whether or not you guys have ever discussed each of your views on marriage and the direction/steps you wish your relationship will follow.  If he is content with how things are and he thinks you are that proposal probably isn’t coming if you don’t talk it out.  Or if you’ve never said anything, he may want to but think you don’t so he isn’t going to ask.  Basically he may be approaching it with an “if it ain’t broken don’t fix it” mentality because you haven’t voiced otherwise.  Talk it out.
