Should you tell a divorced parent what’s going on during their child’s school year?

Absolutely: they should be involved, even if they don’t contact the child throughout the week. They should always be in the loop. 
No: it’s the other parents responsibility to fully be involved to the best of their ability.

I also think it’s the parents responsibility to stay up to date with their own kid. Divorced or not. Nothing is stopping the parent from looking at information concerning the child.

It is the parent's responsibility to keep track of their kids, whether or not they have their child that day/week/whatever. We have 50/50 custody with my step daughter and we check her online account for school almost daily, especially the weeks that she is at her mom's house. If she is sick and has to miss the day of school we even give her mom a heads up. We don't get the same courtesy from her, but we feel both parents should be informed and inform each other of the goings on in their child's lives. It's not the teacher's responsibility to do so. They have enough on their plate with 20+ students to have to contact both parents for every separated household situation.

I think if both parents have custody they both should be involved and both parents should keep the other in the loop about what goes on on the days the child is not with the other parent. my step daughter's mom doesn't do any school stuff with her and she doesn't really care. custody is 50/50. in that case because she doesn't even try or isn't  involved we let her figure stuff out on her own. the only time we say something is if papers need to be filled out with her info and turned in. for school it's pretty much me and mom's ex husband who know what goes on with school for my step daughter and I let my SO know what's going on when he gets home from work. her mom just has nothing to do with any school stuff.
