My birth story!!
I was due 12/12 with my first child but my doctor stated she thought he’d come a little early. At my last appointment on Wednesday, i was almost 2cm and 30% effaced. I had a feeling the day he’d be born would be 12/9. I woke up on 12/9 at 6:30am with contractions 7 mins apart, which slowly moved to 5 mins, then to 3 mins. I was instructed to call my doctor once I was having contractions 3 mins apart for 1 min long lasting an hour. So about 10am i called my doctor and she said to wait another hour because if i wasn’t 4cm i would be sent home. I laid down and tried eating some crackers because i knew if I was admitted I couldn’t eat; but I felt too nauseous. I held off through horrible contractions and decided to head over to the hospital around 1245pm which was almost 3 hours after my initial phone call. By the time i got to the hospital at 1pm, contractions were so bad I felt sick. They checked me and i was 5cm dilated and 80% effaced! (Thank god because if they told me to go home and come back later i would have died). I pretty much immediately requested the epidural which still took about an hour or so to get. By this point I actually threw up after contractions because it was so bad. The epidural worked almost immediately and was such a tremendous relief. There really are no words for how much better I felt after getting it. I got the epidural around 315pm or so, and from then we patiently waited. Around 630pm I started to feel when I had contractions just because I felt a lot of pressure and like I had to poop. This intensified until about 8pm when the doctor said i could push! They also wanted to make sure i got two rounds of antibiotics because i was group b strep positive. I pushed for 29 mins starting at 8pm and he was born! The doctor did use forceps because between contractions the baby’s heart rate was dropping. But the epidural was amazing and I felt nothing, and baby was born with no issues!! I feel great so far after, I do have some soreness but Motrin is helping ☺️
