What kind of birth control would you recommend me?

I’m 17 years old and just started to have sex with my bf. I would like to have another birth control method besides the condom but I’m unsure about what to try first. What would you recommend me?

I got on the pill when I was around 16-17 years old. Most people might say you’ll forget & possibly have a unexpected pregnancy, but honestly between high school & my everyday life (at the time) I never missed a pill the whole 3-4 years I was taking them. They worked great for me. Never had a scare & I was always on time every month. I do recommend setting a reminder on your phone to remind you to take them. I set mine for when I knew I’d be taking a shower & brushing my teeth. So It just became a routine for me to get my pill every night & take it before bed. I kept it in the same cabinet as my mouth wash & tooth paste so if I happened to forget the reminder, I’d see it sitting there & take it. You definitely have many options to remind yourself to take it. Highly suggest the ortho-tri cyclen.

Knowing how I was at your age, the IUD is absolutely your best bet. Get a small progesterone one like Kyleena or Skyla and don’t worry for 3 years. Progesterone IUD’s don’t mess with your hormones as much as birth control pills do

IMPLANT! It's super effective and lasts up to 5 years depending on the provider. I had Nexplanon and that lated 3 years. Not once a pregnancy scare. Also, if you're lucky, there's a chance you might not have a period the whole time. I was part of the 20% of women who didn't get their period. Basically, the implant releases hormones that prevent you from ovulating, therefore no period and no pregnancy. Ask your doctor about it!

Im 16 and I️ have an IUD. Its easier than having to take a pill everyday that can possibly give you acne, mood swings, and or irregular periods. Personally I️ feel like since teens have raging hormones a hormonal pill isn’t the best idea because you don’t know if that will control them or make them worse. Depends on the person. Plus IUDs last much longer.

Don't forget to take a look at the risks of using hormonal birth control; those things mess with your body like crazy - the pill is a class 1 carcinogen!! (So is tobacco and asbestos.)

I got the patch two years ago when I was 16 and it’s been great. You change it once a week for three weeks then get your period and it’s extremely easy to remember!
