Did you have to do this when you scheduled a doctors appointment?

I called to make a appointment because I'm pregnant. They told me to go to the hospital any time and go get my blood drawn. Then once it's confirmed that I'm pregnant and it gives them an idea of how far along I am, they said they'll call and let me know & then they'll schedule an appointment with the OB. Now I'm just wondering what that's going to be because I'm not going to be doing any pelvic exams, I have my reasons. Please don't bash me, I hear enough from everyone around me. 🤦🏼‍♀️   Can you tell me about your first OB appointment ?? 😊😊

My OB wanted a confirmation of pregnancy from my local health department , but even then they just did a urine sample. After that I waited until after my pregnancy insurance card came in the mail then I scheduled an appointment at my OBGYN. But yes , they did want a confirmation of pregnancy , it was a letter to the OB stating the results of my test. That’s how mines went.

No bashing here but as a physician, I can assure you doing a pelvic exam for us is basically the same as looking at an ankle. We don't even think twice about it. All we care about is having healthy and happy patients. As a patient I can tell you I hate going for pelvics myself but I try to remind myself it's like a sprained ankle to them! Establishing trust with your provider is going to be so very important during your pregnancy and I wish you the very best of luck!!!

i had a pelvic exam at my first appointment and it will be hard to go through a pregnancy without one. I'm not sure how that would even be possible, as they have to check your cervix at the beginning and end of your pregnancy. How will you give birth if they can't tell how dilated you are? Not to mention, god forbid, your cervix opened too early in the pregnancy.😞 idk what your reasons are, and I'm not bashing you, but I would reconsider your reasoning as it could turn into a life or death problem for the baby and even you. pregnancy is complicated and is often accompanied by even more complications.

I’m established with my OB so I went in for a confirmation urine test, after my home per test, then scheduled an US for about 4-6 weeks out since I was early. I’m not sure if its because I am an established patient or not but I didn’t have pelvic exams with either of my pregnancies during the first appt.  I think my OB said the first pregnancy that the risk of introducing something like a bacteria is increased and so the pelvic exams arm held until the very end for checking for dilatation and effacement.  I go every 4 weeks for appt and I have second US in 6 after my initial.

Since I am already a patient my doctor had me come in for an HCG titer test that day and three days after to check the rise. After doing an initial ultrasound to date the fetus they've scheduled an appointment for next week. 
My doctor likes to have initial appointments at around 6-8 weeks. In that appointment he's going to do another pelvic--which is incredibly important--and more blood work and tests for any infection.

I had to get my hcg levels checked before my first appt. this is my 3rd and during the first exam every time my ob did a Pap smear, had more bloodwork and I think checked my cervix. Then after during checkups they just use the Doppler to check for a heartbeat on my stomach. There is another swab you need later in pregnancy to check for group b streptococcus but that’s later. I guess just speak to ur ob if your not comfortable with them.

I went to the hospital twice for drawing blood to test Hcg levels. This because early on, the gestational sac doesn’t develop until around week 5 or the Hcg levels are at least 1500. Once my Hcg level was over 1500, they scheduled an ultrasound.

Kind of. My ob wanted a “confirmation of pregnancy” before I could be seen in the office. I just went to a family planning clinic and had them do it and then took the paperwork to my OB! Still not sure why they just don’t do it in the office lol
