Foster parenting?

I’m starting to really get interested in becoming a foster parent when me and my husband buy a house and he’s out of school! If any of you are foster parents can you tell me more about it?

I’m not a foster parent, but I’ve worked in child welfare with foster care agencies for 10 years. My advice is go to info sessions at different agencies in your area NOW. The saying in foster care is that it takes 5 years from the first time a parent expresses interest in fostering for them to commit. Get all the info and find the agency that feels like home to you. Each agency is so different and offer different things. Each agency serves different kinds of kids too, These people will be in your house, on your phone, in your personal business daily. You gotta like them. The agency you work with is your main support. Having the child in your home is hard work, but if you like your support system and feel held by them, you’ll be more successful. Additionally, start taking child development, attachment, and trauma trainings NOW too. Don’t wait until you start the process of getting licensed. The more training you have, the more tools you will have in your toolkit when your child arrives.
