Sitting Up?

Question

What are the best ways to help your LO sit up? My son is two months old and really isn’t having it with tummy time. He has fairly good head control (obviously would be closely monitored if his head drops). Just looking for some advice. Thanks!

Yeah most babies hate tummy time. My two girls did. I wouldn’t have him practicing trying to sit before 5 months...4 months at the earliest. It’s bad for their spine and neck. My two cents is...just do tummy time for 2 minutes or so like someone else mentioned or don’t do it at all really. After seeing my girls hate it, I honestly didn’t really do tummy time until they were older, like 4 months. And they were fine and also ahead of most babies as far as milestones go. But as a mom, you’ll know whats best for your little one and what’s most comfortable for you.

Most babies hate tummy time, you just gotta power through it. Maybe prop him on a Boopy if you're not doing that already.
There's no benefit to helping them sit up early and it's really not good for their necks to have them upright like that before they've developed the muscles and control for it

Well my opinion is definitely not the same as the majority, but this is what I've learned from my daughter's physical therapists. The muscles that baby's strengthen when they do tummy time are the muscles that they need to sit up, crawl, and eventually walk. Tummy time strengthens , not just arm strength, but also the abdominal muscles. My daughter has Down syndrome and it has caused those core muscles to be weaker. The main thing that has helped her with increasing her core strength has been tummy time. Babies need their core muscles to be strong for rolling over, to balance when sitting up, and eventually standing. They need the arm and core strength for crawling and eventually pulling up to standing position, and also for pushing from laying up to sitting. But I know that it can be difficult to get a baby to do tummy time. It took my daughter a while to get used to it. We started out with just a couple minutes a few times a day and increased over time. Another thing that has helped... I downloaded the app BabySparks and payed the fee ( I think it was like 3.99 or something like that) and unlocked all kinds of activities to do with her. You put your child's info in and then it will suggest activities based on their age. Then you mark whether each activity is too hard, too easy, or if they are able to do it, and it will start to base suggestions on where your child is developmentally based on your responses. It has helped so much with keeping my daughter on time reaching developmental milestones.

Tummy time isn't necessary. Babies do everything they need to do to learn how to move on their own; propping them in uncomfortable positions is not helpful and could cause harm.
