When do kids first go to the dentist?

My son is almost five months so I’m assuming he’s good for a at least a few more months, but I’m wondering when the typical first dental appointment is

I wonder this too... I work at a Head Start and some kids don't see the dentist until they are 3-5 years old and it's too late for them! A lot of kids have cavities already. I asked my dentist and I think he said 3, but I don't know if I want to wait that long.  I know there are dentists that see kids younger than that. My dentist recommended starting to let my 11 month old look at my teeth, watch me brush my teeth, and even touch my teeth .. they said we should basically get him used to letting someone put fingers in his mouth so when he goes to the dentist, he isn't scared. We started brushing his tooth (without fluoride) as soon as he got one! He loves teeth brushing time! He smiles every time he sees his toothbrush. Sometimes I let him "help" and he just kinda chews on the brush a little. He also watches me brush.

The recommendation is around 1. I ended up taking my son just after he was 2 and it was all good. We're going to go every 6 mos.

I always take them the month of their first birthday, and then every 6 months after. It’s what our pediatrician recommended. They don’t really do much the first couple of times, but it helps get them used to coming.
