How to get one year old to fall asleep on his own??

Question

The only way my son falls asleep is if he is laying on me. This is for naps and bedtime. At night he usually wakes up once and I have to put him in bed with me or else he will scream all night long. Last night I tried letting him fall asleep on his own and all he did was scream bloody murder from 3:30am-5:45am when I finally said screw it and had him lay on me and he knocked out instantly. It’s nap time now and I put him in his crib and he is of course crying. I checked on his after 5 mins and tried soothing him and now I’m in the middle of waiting 10 mins and will check on him again. How do you get your babies to fall asleep on their own??? I feel like my son is so stubborn that he’d rather scream and go without sleep then to take a nap or sleep at night! Any advice would be appreciated!
*edit to clarify* we share a room and I did  not let him go two hours straight alone and crying. I stood by his crib and had my hand on him and talked to him for those two hours. He just wouldn’t calm down. So to the comment saying I shouldn’t have children, thanks :)

Maybe lay next to him with your hand on his tummy or back for a few days as like a transition?

I know what your going through. although my baby could fall asleep without being held or rocked. she had to be fed to sleep in a swing until she was out. I too share a room with mine & it's not easy. some say we should have " sleep trained " early on. but honestly I won't regret this. they know us as there protector and we are they're security blanket.. and if we had to rock them, hold them, feed them and shush them to sleep for a year or more I will not regret this one bit. soon enough they won't need it and we will be longing for it back. I still struggle with our sleeping situation. but I know it will get better. if u need any advice or just want to talk, you can message me girl : )

What about a video monitor to check on him instead of going in the room? My son would get ten times more upset when I would check on him and leave. I pat my son to sleep to get him used to sleeping in his own and even if he just sleeps an hour at first it is still progress. Once he was used to him crib I let him cry it out and he only cried 20 minutes. Every baby is different, it's trial and error to find what works best. Hope this helps.

My kid is like this too, doesn’t calm, just screams harder. Not much advice, just make changes gradually. Move him an inch away from you one night, then 2, then a foot etc. You’ll get there. Cold turkey isn’t for every kid.

If you are there and comforting him it will just take a lot of patience and consistency, but he’ll figure it out. The hard part is not giving in. Our little guy took a couple nights before he got it. He is in a separate room but the principle is the same. I’d go in every 3-4 minutes and pick him up, shush him, tell him he was okay, then give him kisses and tell him goodnight again. Those nights felt like they’d never end, but I’m glad we did it, because he can fall asleep by himself now and is always happy and calm. Before that we were holding him for naps and rocking him to sleep at night too. (We did this at around 5 months, and have had to reinforce/redo a couple times for a day or two during sleep regressions). It may be harder now that he’s older and he’s had more time to get really used to the habit of falling asleep with you. Good luck!

Letting baby scream more than 2 hours bloody murder?? Really? I think some people should think twice before having a baby, they need care and attention, not cruelty, babies will fall asleep on their own when ready.
