I would rather have had more time after the baby came- not before. So, I’d personally want from whenever the baby comes and onward.

What are the rules around his paternity leave?  Like 2 weeks anytime in the first year or does he have to take it right away?
This is a tough question.  I would personally want the help after the baby gets here and worst case scenario, the baby could be up to 2 weeks late.  Our kids go to daycare and if my husband had paternity leave, we probably would have had him take his right after my leave was up to delay the need for daycare a bit.
But then again, I live with my kids’ dad.  It might be nice to have a few weeks just you two of you before baby comes since you are long distance.

Is this your first baby? You probably won’t deliver until close to 40 weeks, so I wouldn’t bother with having him take until 38 weeks at the earliest. Unless he has a lot of leave, he might be wasting 4-5 weeks of it waiting for you to deliver if you go overdue (many first time moms do).

I say that fine or at least at 37 weeks. I work at on the birthing floor and most moms go in labor between 37 weeks so i think36 or 37 weeks would be fine
