When can a baby have water or juice?

I’m a FTM and I’ve read many different things about when they can drink! Our pediatrician said at his last appointment to start giving him little sips of water here and there, but I forgot to ask when he can really start drinking. He’s 5 months old now and just started on baby food. TIA!!

I saw a deitition and she said to offer drinks of water with meals. She said not to bother with juice, it has no nutritional value and causes issues later on with teeth etc. It's just easier not to give juice now, then you don't have to fight them to drink water later. (I am I the UK)

My pediatrician told us to give apple juice at about 3.5-4 months for constipation. It’s really helped. It gets 2oz every other day or so depending on how is BM has been

You can do OJ or Applejuice as long as it’s a 1:3 ratio juice:water. I was recommended this to ease constipation for my little one.

With my son who is now 6 i started watered down juice at like 5 months he could also hold his own cup then. I’ve had no issues with him. My daughter who is 5months is less advanced than he was so I haven’t tried with her yet. I give her a couple ounces of water in her bottle once in a while

I read in my baby book water can start at 6 Months  Not sure how much. I was planning  on talking to the pediatrician at his 6 month appt. about it. But juice, I wouldn’t do even if allowed until much much older. Their stomachs just are starting to transition to solids. Juice and all that sugar can’t be good for their stomach or developing teeth. I’m sure sugar free is fine but there’s just something about juice and babies that I think don’t mix.

My pediatrician said fruit juice without sugar my son can have once he can drink from a cup, around 6 months or older.

Tbh I'd wait and call your pediatrician just to double check. It's possible for babies to get sick/die (can happen to adults too) from having too much water in their system, so that wasn't something I ever gave our oldest. Not until she was closer to a year old (like 10/11 months, I think) and only a couple oz of just water a day. I've always been overly cautious when it comes to giving my kids food/drinks though 😩
