Picky Eater Baby

My son is 9 months old and is an incredibly picky eater. He wants to live on breast milk, sweet potato puree, and baby yogurts. The doctor wants him to be eating 3 meals each day the size of his fist. She wants us to try and incorporate more and more table food. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my picky boy to eat? I tried egg this morning. He played with it on his tray, but just clamped down and turned his head anytime I tried to get him to taste it. I have tried applesauce... he gagged, hard. He used to be willing to eat carrot, pea, spinach, green bean pureed, but is starting to refuse those, too. He is getting in his top teeth... I dont know if that would make him more fussy? He is 29.5 inches long but only 19lb6oz, so we need to get some weight on him. Any advice is appreciated! **Edit** I have tried pancakes, eggs, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, and Nilla wafers as real foods for him to eat. He ate a tiny bit of pancake, but everything else was pretty unsuccessful.
