Why does my week old do this?

Question

I was told by a lactation consultant to wake my baby up every 3 hours during the fay and after 11pm to wake her up every 4hours. My friend told me she wakes her daughter up during the day every 3 hours and at night she just lets her sleep till she wakes up and wants it. Since today I feel like my baby has been wanting to eat every 1-2hours. Is she not getting enough to eat? And is it okay to pump now?

Cluster feeding. It's normal. She will want to be on the boob a lot. Somtimes its just comfoet, somtimes its hunger. It's a pain in the boob but it's nothing to worry about. They all do it

It’s cluster feeding. Totally normal, but also exhausting. If you have an over abundance of milk then yes, it should be fine to pump after or in-between feedings. I was a cow and had to pump after my lo nursed otherwise I was engorged and miserable. Babies go though lots of growth spurts during the first year in which they will feed/sleep more or less than usual. All normal behavior. Good luck momma!

she's cluster feeding, latch her as much as poasible. the reason they tell you not to pump yet is because you can create an over supply which can be painful and lead to mastitis and clogged ducts.
