Feeling devastated

Had some pretty bad cramping through the night with no bleeding. Decided to go to the hospital bc it had got unbearable. They did routine blood work and my hcg levels was just fine for 5 weeks but the ultrasound showed differently. Apparently the fetal pole wasn't present and the doctor said it was possible this wasn't going to be a viable pregnancy. Has anyone experienced this and went on to have a healthy pregnancy? Am I just getting my hopes up? Three years and this is the closest we've been. I feel like such a failure.
