Studying

Jada

Hey, guys. I just needed some school tips.

I’m a Junior in high school, and I have a problem studying. It’s just soooo nauseating. Studying makes me want to low key kill my self.

But, I know I have to do that I can raise my GPA and get into a good college. Let me tell you my story. Apologizing in advance for how long it is.

Freshmen year (2 years ago) I took all regular classes and I got A’s and B’s in them. At the end of the year, my teachers thought that I needed to be challenged and they recommended me for honors classes for Sophomore year, which I was happy about.

Sophomore year came, and I took Geometry Honors, English 2 Honors, and Biology Honors. I didn’t do too bad that year, but it still wasn’t all that great. I had a C ever grading period (4 grading periods, 9 weeks in each) on Biology, but it was only because I had a teacher who graded like a crazy person. She was a godsend teacher, a very good teacher, but it was her grading that messed us up. No one ever passed her class with higher than a C. I knew I was good at Biology because at the end of the year, we had a mandatory exam for that class and I got a high 3 on it, almost a 4, which meant it was just my teacher who caused me to get a C all year long in her class.

In Geometry, I had a terrible teacher. She was one of those really smart teachers who has the potential of being a good teacher, but she was so smart that she couldn’t explain things on a level for beginners, instead of a level of her level, which was of experts. I had an exam for Geometry just like Biology and I got a 2 on it, 1 point away from a 1. I also got a D in her class in the 3rd grading period. Even though I was really good at Algebra 1 and passed that class in Freshmen year with A’s and B’s.

In English 2, I had a really good teacher, but she kind of was a tough one. She had us write everything, there was never any multiple choice tests, and we read Shakespeare, which was really hard because of the language they used in that era. She also wanted us to read at home, and those chapters were huge. At the end of the year, for the exam we had, I got a high 4, almost a 5 on it, and that was including the separate writing exam we took.

Anyway, I wished I did better in those classes than I did, and it’s because I didn’t study. My mom told me that studying is more than cracking open a book and reading it, but my point is, how do I study for something that you can’t study for, like a reading test. If they give you the stories, how can you study for that?

And even for things you can study for, how do you do it to make it less nauseating?

After freshmen year, I had a 3.25 GPA, and then it went down to a 2.95 after the Geometry test previously mentioned.

I want to raise that and be able to get into a really good college so that I can get my Master’s degree in Journalism.

Advice? Tips? All is welcome!!!
