breastfeeding one side at a time?

My baby is almost 7 weeks and I'm exclusively breastfeeding.   she's growing and gaining weight perfectly,  but she often only nurses from one side at a time.    maybe in a 24 hr period,  she'll nurse from both sides once or twice out of 8 or 9 feeds.   Is this ok?  no issues with engorgement or supply.   just wondering.  ftm here.  thanks!

So my nurses told me to do 15 min on each boob for one feeding, then a little later the LC came by my room and I was clarifying what the nurses said about 15 min per boob per feeding & she said you can do that or just do a full feeding on one boob & then the next feeding do the opposite boob. She said it’s a good way for them to get a good amount of the foremilk & hindmilk.

Perfectly fine! That's how my son has always nursed and he's still breastfeeding at almost 16 months.

I did one at a time and LO is a little chunk. Just makes going to the store with lop sided breast akward. LMAO

My mom breastfed all of us (4 kids) and she said to do one side at a time (most of the time) and the BF consultant told me to do 10-15 mins per side. With my first I did both sides and he struggled to gain weight. With my second I did only one side and he's a little chunk. Idk how much it has to do with how we fed or their genetics but they gained weight very differently. I've also thought after they get the more watery fore milk the hind milk is super fatty and caloric. So you could argue if they're only nursing on one side they're getting more fatty milk?? Idk. This is just me trying to make sense of it. I think you're doing great! Esp if baby is happy and fed!! ❤️😍🎉

that is referred to as block feeding and it's an excellent way to feed the baby so that the baby gets the proper balance of foremilk and hindmilk.

my oldest was a very efficient nurser, with him it was one breast, burp, little of the second breast. the next feeding he'd start on the second breast, and finish on the first one if that makes sense.
this baby is nine weeks today, and recovering from having her tongue and upper lip tie released. she's still not as efficient as her brother was, so it's one breast per feeding, and longer at that breast to make sure she gets the fatty hind milk. she's been gaing great.
I lol'd at someone mentioning being lopsided, it's true! but baby's happy, I'm happy, and husband doesn't mind :D
if baby's happy and gaining well, has more yellow poops than green ones, then do whatever works for y'all!
