Spinal Block vs Epidural? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Question

So today at my appointment my dr gave me a birth plan worksheet to fill out. One of the questions is In Case of a Cesarean would I prefer an epidural or a spinal. My last baby was 18 years ago and was a cesarean with an epidural but I wasn’t given a choice. Looking for some pros and cons to each so that I can make a descision. TIA.

At some hospitals if you have an epidural they will leave it in to help manage pain after your c-section. A spinal wears off so there isn’t this option. I would ask if they use it for pain management afterwards.

If I’m not mistaken a spinal is quick acting and will wear off quicker after your c-section. I believe if your scheduled for a c-section then you get a spinal

I had chosen to get an epidural during my induction so that if it came down to a csection I would already be numb. I did not want to have to be put under in case of emergency.
