do you look into what a school has to offer when enrolling your child/children? or do you simply enroll them in one closest to home?

this is some research I’m doing for my internship that involves helping communities in and around New Mexico and its reputation on education.
If you’re a parent, your input would be greatly appreciated. 💖

My daughter had severe speech delays and her speech therapist sang praises about the speech therapy at the school she now attends. It's the main reason we enrolled her there (and they were amazing. 1.5 years since she started and they're already saying she won't need an IEP next year since she's advanced so much since going).

The public school zone were in is pretty bad. It’s the #10 smallest school in the whole state. Their graduating class last year was 15 kids. The whole k-12 is 250 students. They don’t really have any extra curricular activities or sports at all. The classes are just your basic science, math, English, social studies. So we will have to do private and the closest private high school is 30 minutes away. The closest private elementary is a little better at 15 minutes away. We may be out of this town before high school anyway. But I couldn’t in good conscience send my kid to that school 😬

I'm a teacher so I value education and school climate. I've already decided my daughter is going to go to my school instead of the one closer to our home when she is old enough.
