Why would you not open the gifts in front of the guests who have brought them?

Part of gift giving is seeing the person's reaction when they open it. Not opening gifts takes that moment away from the giver. Kids take forever to open things, so people usually help and get it done most of the way. Snacks, games, presents, cake - that's how parties go.

I have found that under the age of 8 it's really hard for all the other kids to see one kid get so much, then stuff gets ripped open and pieces lost. 
Plus you kinda want to make the presents secondary to spending time with friends and family, and if someone didn't bring a gift there isn't any awkwardness. 
Also kid reactions are uncanny so best to keep frowns at books and clothes in a private setting hahaha

I've never heard of kids opening presents at a party, there's always a big black bag or gift bag they go into while the kids eat/play/dance and they're opened at home with thank you cards. kids get bored and jealous when they have to stand and watch someone open gift after gift and it takes forever.

As a child I hated opening up gifts in front of everyone due to my anxiety about receiving gifts. In my household when I have children, it'll be highly encouraged not to bring gifts to parties. Just bring yourself and we will be pleased :)

Ive never been to a children's party where the gifts were opened there and then and I have two school aged children so probably 60+ parties so far. Soundd American possibly

if it's a small party, maybe open gifts.  But personally I think it's tedious to watch people open gifts.  If they do,  that's usually the time I sneak out of the party.

Isn't that the whole purpose of having a birthday party?? Opening up gifts? Aside from the cake, games, snacks, and friends of course.

Yes it is rude. Okay thanks for the gifts bye. Do people actually do that? I’ve never seen it. It’s just normal to open them with everyone and they see your reactions and you share the experience with them.
