Engaged at 19?

Me and my boyfriend have been dating for 2 years now, and currently I’m 18. We were talking about the future and stuff like that and he randomly told me he wants to marry me. He said in about a year, he plans to propose to me. The thing is, I’m still pretty young and I’ll be 19 in a year and I don’t know how my parents would feel about me getting engaged so young!! Obviously I want to marry him but is it weird or bad to get engaged so young?

It’s not weird or bad to be married young but there has to be an understanding that both of you are still growing and should support each other through and overall communicate and respect . How do you feel about being married young ?

You've been dating a while and if you guys feel the same in a year, why not? And just because you get engaged at 19, doesn't mean you have to marry anytime soon afterwards. You can take however long you want til the wedding.

I got married 15 days before I turned 19. Hubby is 5 years older than me. I will never regret my decision, we are a great family, celebrated our 2nd year anniversary this year and welcomed our little mr.handsome (just turned 5 months). We thought everything we could through. Hubby had and thankfully has a great job, I still study (currently obtaining my bachelors degree in theology) but I study part time, family especially grandmas help out a lot. We made it work. We are happy! It's not too young, some aren't ready in their 40s, but you really have to think through whether you could make it work!

I just got engaged and I'm 18. Although I am in my sophomore year in college so that's the only reason my parents were okay with it. I sat down with my parents and my boyfriend and we discussed why we want to get engaged and when we want to get married and everything so they felt at ease a little more about us moving forward in our relationship. Just talk to your parents and your boyfriend if you are worried about it.

My parents got married at 19 and 20. They’re still married at 54 and 55. It’s not a bad thing to get married young, if it works it works. Good luck.
