When can I start storing milk

Question

With the intent of my bf using the milk to feed baby so I can get some rest...
Or is there just no hope for rest for mama in the early days?
Baby is not even two weeks, I don’t want her using a bottle yet, just trying to see a light at the end of the tunnel

I started pumping when he less than a week old and introduced bottle around then also bc he was jaundice and we had to supplement. I now have 200oz in freezer and he nurses like a champ and takes the bottle fine. (We use Nuk simply natural) you do what you need to for your sanity. You could nurse and then pump to get any extra.

I actually started pumping after one week to build up a freezer stash. I was fortunate and my son would feed 20 minutes on one side and I could pump the other. I would pump between 3-6 ounces each time. I didn't have issues with heavy let down so pumping after a week wasn't an issue. I introduced a bottle at night to my son at 2 weeks to get him accustomed to it. I was returning to work in 2 month and my husband is a SAHD. it gave my husband a chance to feed our son and I could get 4-5 hours of consecutive sleep before my husband would bring him back to me

I pumped from day one with the free light from the head lactation nurse at the hospital.... I was able to get a jumpstart on my stash because I went back to work at 12 weeks... I also offered my daughter a bottle once a week to see if she would have a preference as far as bottles...

I’m going to start making a stock pile for when I go back to work and also so that my husband can feed her if I’m not home. 
One thing I’m going to start doing, tomorrow actually, is pumping once a day in the morning while my husband bottle feeds her. 
Your morning supply is usually the greatest in volume and I’ve heard from friends you can get almost 2 servings from that pump. Just be careful not to overpump, that could make your supply out of wack. 
But I get the desire to pump so that someone else can help out, these first few weeks are draining!

If you pump too much in the beginning it can cause over supply and blocked ducts and other issues like mastitis. If you pump you are telling your body to make the same amount tomorrow and if you don't pump it will make it anyway. Other issues in the early stages with over supply include forceful letdown and inadequate ability for baby to get to hind milk (because too much fore milk) and lots of forceful feeding can lead to reflux... I know girl because I did this and my poor baby and my poor boobs suffered. 
Try to wait until 6 or 7 weeks once you and your baby are established then go for your life. A meal is roughly 3oz and so if you pump three times after feeding and get an oz each time you have a spare feeding. Don't go adding in a whole other "feed" you don't need to.

It's best to let yourself get established because you know you aren't pumping what baby is needing but if bub doesn't empty both boobs completely during a feed you can take what's left after every feed. It may only be 1oz per feed.  By putting each little pump at the end of a day into one bottle/ freezer storing item you will have a whole feed and get a few freezer feeds ready. the annoyance with these little pumps is you are best to only combine them together once they are each chilled so you have more washing up per day. (not adding fresh pumped to chilled) By doing this you build your supply to be more than bub needs before they go through their growth spurt but there are risks like engorgement because you are making more so then you have to pump or risk mastitis.  the other thing is.  You still have to pump the times you feed bub a bottle in the night because if you don't you'll lose some of your supply. I ended up using the bottles to be able to be longer than 2 hours between feeds

Start a routine. Baby will wake several times a night, that’s normal. But do the same thing to put them to bed every night. And then you go to bed. At least for a few weeks. You’ll be more rested if you go to bed early and hopefully soon baby will start sleeping longer stretches and even all night.

My little girl is a week old and wouldn’t take to my left breast so I fed her out of the right and pumped the left so it wouldn’t be full. I also had milk build up into my left armpit and pumping helped so much. Now she is eating from my left and right so I’m not pumping unless I feel I have to and then I’m just freezing it. Everyone is different and I don’t want her to use a bottle yet either. BF is sometimes a struggle but it is very worth it. Hang in there.
