IUD pain?

I want to get an IUD, but I get mixed responses.
What are your guys’ stories on getting it put in? And which kind do you guys feel is better, for example the copper one or mirena?

I have the copper one because I didn’t want hormones to mess with my mental illnesses. I went in on the second or third day of my period. Originally my doctor thought she’d have to dilate me to insert it, especially since I had never had kids, so she suggested that I get a cervical block. It was a few (I think 6) shots of numbing directly to the cervix, to me they felt like bee stings. It turned out that she didn’t need to dilate me, but I was still glad I got the cervical block. The first 3 shots felt like beestings, but then the rest of the experience was just feelings of pressure. I took ibuprofen before I went in, and the cervical block helped for a bit afterwards. I did get cramping, but I’ve had period cramps just as bad. So for me the entire thing was bearable. It did make my periods worse for the first few months. Now the only difference is that I get spotting before my period, cramping starts earlier, and I get more discharge overall. My periods aren’t really worse, I just get symptoms earlier. I personally love my IUD so far (I’ve had it a bit over a year), and I do recommend it to other people to look into. Everyone is different, and there are people who don’t react well to IUDs. Personally, I haven’t had any side effects negative enough for me to regret getting it.

I got the IUD out in a couple weeks ago. Yeah it hurt but you can just breath through the pain. Felt like really bad period cramps. So kind of like small contractions of you ever had a kid and know what those feel like. For me it wasn’t horrible though because I’ve felt that pain. It was over in less time then it takes to take 3 deep breaths.

I think it wouldn’t have been too bad but I have a titled cervix and my OB didn’t realize that I guess till have way through so she was basically trying to put it in at an angle. It made me have major cramping for 2-3 hours but then I was fine.

I ended up getting about 2 months ago the copper IUD because it has "no hormones". I went to the doctor, I got it inserted, it felt soooo weird. A bit painful, but definitely bearable. Once I got to my car I felt this afterward pain, I was in so much pain I thought I wasn't going to be able to drive home. I sat there in my car, crying. I called my husband and he offered to pick me up. I said it was okay, our home wasn't too far away. I drove myself home, still crying. When I got home the pain seemed to go away. I went about my day but I still felt a lingering pain. My husband arrived from work shortly afterwards and then he saw in how much pain I was. I took some more pain killers and asked him to get me some heating pads. He left, came back and I was still in pain. I thought that the IUD was inserted incorrectly ,but the doctor assured me assured me it was inserted correctly. Lon story short, I went to the ER and the doctor took an ultrasound and said everything was fine . I was so unco.fortable for the next two weeks I had it taken out. I personally would not recommend getting one .

I've had two in now. 3 years ago I had a Skyla inserted during my period, which hurt but wasn't awful just like a painful period cramp. I also had some cramping for a few days then spotting. My periods stayed at around 8 days long and complicated.
Over this thanksgiving break I got my Skyla removed and replaced with a Kyleena (same small size but 5 years instead of 3). I wasn't on my period so it hurt quite a bit but absolutely no symptoms afterward- no cramps or spotting. My next period was 3 days and very light. I'm getting my second period now and it's more like spotting than anything. 
Once my 5 years are up, I plan to get another IUD! They're wonderful

I got a Mirena in April, and insertion hurt me. A lot. But I was kinda lucky because after that, things were mostly fine. I had occasional cramping in the days and weeks after, but nothing worse than what I usually experience during a period.
I chose Mirena because I didn’t want my periods to get worse. And they haven’t - I spotted for several weeks afterward, had a couple of “normal” periods, but now it has pretty much disappeared. I still get PMS symptoms and some very light spotty discharge, but the actual flow is gone. I’m currently long-term monogamous with someone and we don’t use protection, so when my period started disappearing a few months ago, I definitely got freaked out and took some pregnancy tests. But it all turned out fine.
That said, I’ve had a couple of annoying side effects. One is that my hormonal acne has gotten much worse. I’m currently working on solving that problem. The other is that my pH is a little more prone to becoming imbalanced. It was awful at first when it began happening (bad enough that I was considering having the IUD removed), but I’ve since figured out how to keep things running fairly smoothly.

I got nexplanon and I love it.. just scare knowing how much it will hurt when is time to take it out...
