if you were expecting a baby together and needed a car and neither of you can get finance, and saving money still isnt enough by the time baby comes but he has a $15,000 boat he never uses should he sell it to get a family car and work together to buy a new boat later on .... or just dont expect him to sell his things and figure something else out. no judging, we had a car and its blown up and is not able to be fixed. a new motor is worth more than the car and still more than we have! i have not asked him to sell boat i am considering asking but worried he will take it wrong way

Me and my fiance needed a new car and he had a perfectly new bass guitar that cost him more than 1,000 dollars... he sold it.. priorities come first. you can always save up for a new boat but that car is going to help you get you and your baby around especially to Drs appointments and I'm sure he needs it for his job or you do. so yeah talk to him about it and hopefully he's wise and sells it.

Ah... no. Don't do it. Hear me out... Of course it's absolutely all about priorities. Baby, and a car- that's a pretty big priority. Completely understandable, as I've been married for 14 years and we have four kids! I know a thing or two about those priorities. And starting out, it was rough! It always is in  the beginning. I remember when my poor husband wanted a boat so badly!! But, it just wasn't in the cards with a 2 year old, and another one on the way. Our credit sucked too. My husband was finally able to get a loan, with the help of a friend who agreed to consign for him a loan because he knew my husband was good for it, and he knew my husband could pay the loan. So my husband bought his first truck. That in return, helped build his credit... but that's the thing... that boat is a pretty valuable asset and has the potential to serve you both well in the future. I don't know if I wouldn't try to cut back on whatever I could cut back on. Is there any bills y'all could eliminate right now? Cable, internet, anything at all that might help you save up enough for a down payment towards a used vehicle? You could still sell the car that you have now for scrap. Sell it as is for 300-500 for parts. You'd have better luck selling it online. Maybe someone who's interested in fixing old cars, would scoop it up for a reasonable price, turn around and sell it for a larger profit. I mean, you need a vehicle to get you to point a, to b and back. That's all. And there's a lot of places that don't do credit checks. Or, since you do have enough in valuable assets, your husband could use the boy as collateral. As long as you make the payments on time and pay the loan off in a timely manner, you get a better, more dependable vehicle and he gets to keep his boat.
