TTC and confused!

My husband and I are TTC. My last cycle ended on December 3. It was due to make an appearance on January 1. I took a test last Thursday, and the results were negative. I've had some cramping for over a week. I thought that I was just late, but is it possible that I'm pregnant, and just too early to detect HcG?
