How did you know?

Question

I feel like somethings not right with my periods. How did you know for sure something wasn’t right and needed to see a doctor?

Answer

One day I started to have this dull pain in my right lower pelvic region. It was like a 2/10 on a pain scale. I noticed it would get worse sometimes, but even when it wasn't bad it was just this constant dull weird pain (this went on for years). Over time I also started having a lot of gastrointestinal symptoms like painful bloating, food intolerances, and diarrhea. Over time I noticed this was sometimes coordinated with my periods which were always very very painful to begin with in addition to pretty severe PMS. I had multiple ultrasounds that showed nothing other than some fluid in the cul de sac which I was told was "normal" FINALLY I had a  GYNE filling in for my regular GYNE and she listened to me! She said- it sounds like you have endometriosis and you need to go see and endometriosis specialist (after begging and pleading with 2 other GYNEs to listen, seeing multiple GI specialist, a PCP, and even a psychologist). I saw the endo specialist, he recommended surgery, and when I did have surgery I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis.
