When should you start tummy time?

My baby is 17 days old and every time we try tummy time he puts his head face down and can't breathe. Any tips?

tummy time doesn't have to be in the floor. simply putting him tummy to tummy with you counts❤ that's how my son got tummy time until he was older and moving his head some

The nicu my daughter was in said start right away.. it doesn’t have to be on the floor, you can count having them laying on their tummy on your chest.. my daughter likes to keep her face into the floor too and I only allow her to lay on my chest especially because she’s was born 6weeks early and behind for her age but she can lift her head for a few seconds at a time now..

My daugher was 4 days old when we started tummy time on the floor and my son was 6 days old, due to an unplanned extended hospital stay. At first we didn't do it for very long maybe 5mins max and I just kept turning their heads from side to side.

We started with my son at a week. Lay down on the floor with them or lay their head to one side and rattle a toy or talk on the other side.

Just turn his head so he can breathe. The playmat we got came with the pillow to put under the chest to help baby hold their head up. You can try that

You could roll up a receiving blanket and put it under babies armpits during tummy time to keep his face off the floor. The more often you do tummy time, the better.

Don't stress about tummy time. We almost never did it, but my son would sleep on my chest on his tummy. I rarely did tummy time because my son hated it and he was spitting up a lot. He's almost a year now and he's doing just fine. As long as your baby isn't constantly on his/her back, you should be ok. 🤷‍♀️

I was told to start as soon as we left the hospital, but i would definitely talk to babys dr.
