Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder-Stimming.
Hi, just trying to reach out to mommies of children with ASD. My 2 year old babygirl is currently on the waiting list to visit/see a doctor at the Autism ,clinic in Houston. I’m guessing this is where they’ll assess her and finally tell us she’s autistic. There’s no way she isn’t. But I’ve been watching her and whenever she is watching her favorite music videos she tends to put hands in her mouth and bite her fingers. It’s so bad I see little bite marks and fingers are red after. She also pinches her stomach. All the research I’ve done suggest I let her do this because it has to do with stimulation and making her feel better, but the hands in mouth I’ve tried stopping. I’ve given her a blanket to bite instead and for awhile she does but then goes back to hands. I’m just wondering if any other child does anything similar to this? It’s difficult for people to understand that this is just something she has to do when we’re out in public or to my parents. Bless their souls they try to help but Autism is totally new to them and they believe by me telling her no that she’ll stop. But I don’t think she can so I leave her alone. I just want to know if any children out there hurt themselves when /stimming .
