Period start date?

So my period always begins with brown discharge the day before the bleeding g starts. Usually just enough for a pantyliner or on toilet paper. So should I count that as my first day of my period on this app or count the next day when the real bleeding starts?

I get the brown discharge a few days before I start bleeding. I don't count until I get the actual bleeding. But that's me.

I’d say the first day that you need toiletries is the first day of your period. That’s the start of your uterus shedding lining, so that’s the first day of your period.

my general rule of thumb is: if I need protection, then it's started. but you can always ask your doctor
