My SO had a huge crush on his good friend a few years ago, before we even met, and tried to pursue her. She always told him no, and she was always in a relationship. She moved away but they periodically stayed in touch. But he described her as his "first love."
The "first love" part always made me anxious and I made that very clear when I found out about her. There is more to the story but I made it clear I would never be totally comfortable with him being super close to her, but that, due to their history as friends, could never tell him to cut it off.
It was his decision to stop keeping up with her.

My husband has a friend who’s a girl, they’ve been friends since like middle school. He used to have a crush on her but she was never interested, he got over it. Doesn’t bother me

It is always better when you are crushing on someone to ask them directly or indirectly if they are interested in you in some way or the other. Usually when you know that they are not interested in you, it might hurt but it helps you move on. If he is interested in you, then way to go !! 
If he/she does not like you, you will get over it, what remains is the friendship and why not... you liked them for a reason .. that’s never going to go :)

My husband is still good friends with his first love of 2 years. I have zero problems with it 🤷🏻‍♀️ why would I? I’m the one with the ring on my finger and a beautiful baby. Plus she lives in Belgium lol zero concerns.

They’re an Ex crush for a reason hun, your SO is with you for a reason just remember that! As long as they aren’t treating you any different because of it then there shouldn’t be any issue with their friendship☺️
