Is birth control effective straight away if you take it on the first day of your period?

I’ve just started to take the contraceptive pill (Rigevidon). 
I took my first ever pill on the first day of my period. 
On the fourth day of taking the pill, I had unprotected sex (he ejaculated). Would I still be protected?

Yes. Mine was. Read your pamphlet to be sure! Also Planned parenthood's website gives the same info for the combination pill

To be fair, my pill instructions say that if you start your pill on the first day of your period, you’re protected right away.
It likely varies brand to brand.
What does you instruction booklet say?

No. Your doctor should have told how long it is effective. I'm on Apri and I was told to wait a month. Some birth controls its a week, some its two. Read your packet or ask your doctor. But you definitely were not protected

Ive just started on the same brand, my doctor told me to wait 7 days to be protected

The pill is only effective when taken for 7+ days in a row, at the same time each day. You are not protected after 4 days. Read the instructions in your packet
