experiences with having a sweep

hi so I'm 40+3 weeks with my 3rd. I saw midwife today and had a stretch and sweep she told me im 3cm dilated and 50% effaced. been having minor period like pains for the last 48 hours but nothing regular or increasing in intensity. just want to no if the stretch and sweep actully worked on anyone on here?
