Is it rude to ask family to get a booster before seeing your newborn baby?

So I decided to have everyone get boosters before they can come see my baby (due March) well we just went and asked my MIL to have my husbands siblings and there kids, they have 5 grandkids all under 8, to Get boosters.. I’m specifically worried about my one SIL’s kids they are constantly sick like one a week has something extremely weird. His mom says it’s not necessary they’ve all got their Tdap recently due to starting school.. well my husband now agrees with his mom that it’s not necessary..  did any of you have this same problem? How did you handle it?

It was our non-negotiable with us. I have read the UNICEF Australia Light of Riley page (google it) it’s a mothers story of watching her 32 or 35 day baby die from Whooping Cough as she didn’t get the shot. It changed my thought process on the vaccinations and how much we do need them. I’m pretty sure you can find a video on YouTube with Riley (same kid that passed away) trying to breath. It’s heart breaking. 
At the end of the day, they may not agree with your choices but your family do need to respect them. We feel strongly about this with our family & we’ve asked them to get the booster shots or wait 6 weeks until our little one has his first round. 
For me, I’ve just said you’ve waited 32 years for this, another 6 weeks isn’t going to kill you BUT the choice is yours. We’re not pressuring anyone to do it, a few friends have already done the whooping cough shot for us so ... 🤷🏼‍♀️

I understand you wanting your newborn safe as possible and what not. But think with the kids It’s a little to extreme! But that’s there choice and yours. Good luck

Shots usually last 10 years. If the kids had them recently for school or even if they’re under 10 they should be safe and no need for boosters. It’s adults who are delayed with getting boosters that you need to worry about.

I told my mom I wanted her, my dad, and my siblings to get their boosters and she got offended. It's so silly because its for the protection of the baby.

I'm 10 weeks pregnant and I haven't had the vaccine for whooping cough since I as a newborn, I'm deathly allergic. any suggestions?

There is nothing wrong with you request. If the kids are not up to date then no visits 🤷🏼‍♀️ people don’t realize how serious these illnesses are for infants, or they think it won’t happen. But it does happen and the outcome is often very devastating. It’s better to be too protected than not protected enough and wishing you had taking further precautions.
I had very few visitors in the first few weeks to limit the risk. Some people were mad and others understood, not my problem. Your concern is your baby and you can do whatever you feel necessary to protect them.

I made everyone get at least the flu shot. I told them things like tdap or the like would be a good idea but they were coming on 3 different planes during flu season so i was not risking it.

I don’t think kids under 8 should need it because they would have had their immunisations already and not be needing a booster yet. But I’m not sure about those kids.
