Lip tie?

Question

Have any mama's had a baby with an upper lip tie? I've researched it and it looks like my son has it. But he latches just fine and gets what he needs from me. However, he does drool quite a bit while nursing and it hurts to nurse on my left side. It also doesn't look like his lip puffs out but curls in while nursing. Does this indicate a lip tie? I'm asking his pediatrician about it Monday but just curious what other mom's have dealt with while having a baby with a lip tie. I really don't want him to need surgery. :( Thanks in advance!

Ours had a tongue tie and it’s a simply procedure. I’ve heard that lip ties are often undiagnosed. We saw a pediatrician ENT who was able to explain a lot about the subject. He cut her tie. It bleeds for a minute and the pain is over quickly. Was worth it for us. Hers was pretty severe but we still could have managed without it being removed, I’m certain. However we felt it best to get it done as I am breastfeeding exclusively. No regrets. Best wishes.

My son has his lip tie lasered and it was quick and simple. He didn't cry at all! only fussed a bit because they had to hold hos head still and he didn't like that. It was done when he was 5 months old.  nursing before hurt and he was always on my books because he wasn't getting full before he got tired. having the tie made him work harder to get the milk and made him swallow air which made him gassy. now it never hurts and we go longer between feeds. and no more gas! he is almost a year old with no end in sight. My older 2 have  lip ties and I wasn't successful breastfeeding them because I had no idea what a lip tie was. They were never fixed. My middle has a huge gap between her 2 front teeth that we now have to worry about. if only I had known.

My girl has a mild lip tie and a fairly significant tongue tie. I felt a lot of pressure to get it dealt to when she was newborn but I was against it as she always fed well and gained weight. I occasionally felt pain while latching but not anymore. I never got it snipped. I would say that for his sake if he’s feeding well and gaining well then he doesn’t need it snipped. For your sake if you’re feeling pain with his latching then it might be worth considering. It’s a really hard one because while it is a simple quick procedure I’ve heard it’s painful for them (as you’d expect it to be) and apparently doing the exercises in the days/weeks following to prevent it from healing back are awful. It’s a tricky one but good on you for thinking about your options ❤️❤️

My son has a lip rue and the pedi said most times kids grow out of them & not to worry as long as he latches fine :)

My son had a tongue tie. He was really hurting me when I breastfed. So bad i had a laceration on my nipple 😳 They did one in the hospital but not very good. When he was about a week old we went to an ear, nose and throat doc. It was really quick and easy. And they put him on the breast right after. So he only cried a second. We did little exercises for 10 days 2-3 times a day. He didn’t like that but It will be worth it in the end.

it's a quick snip to fix. the concern will be for the future if he nurses well, ie dental problems and speech issues

My baby had a double tongue tie, a bridge tie and lip tie. A lactation consultant may be able to do a screening for it. I definitely recommend finding a specialist to do the release tho.

We went to a specialist and they lasered our baby's ties. She couldnt latch at all without a shield and now she can and im off the shield completely. I Really recommend getting it taken care of young. My cousins boy had it and they didn't do anything with it until Kindergarten and the poor kid was almost impossible to understand.
