Was i on birth control too long?

Is there such thing as being on birth control too long? I was on the depo shot for 4 years and was recently due to get it in November but me and my husband decided i would get off and let’s try to get pregnant. I’m SO scared that i was on it too long and not able to have kids now. I’ve consulted with my dr multiple times throughout these years and she’s said I would have no problems conceiving... BUT you know you always run to google and everything I’ve read has been negative about it especially with it being the depo shot. I didn’t have period at all while on the shot but after being off of it they are back to normal... I’ve had scares of being pregnant and taking pregnancy test and of course I’m disappointed every time and has me thinking of the worst. I know i need to give it more time and when the times right it’ll happen.

I would say the fact that your periods are back to normal is a good thing. Remember, it can take quite a few months for healthy, fertile couples to conceive. Don’t feel discouraged yet.

the fact you are having normal periods is amazing and definitely a good sign. I was on the shot for 7 years and never have a period. almost 2 years after I stopped it did I finally have a healthy pregnancy and while my cycles were getting shorter idk if they regulated because I got pregnant. what I would suggest is OPKs. start taking prenatals now also. if it gets close to a year and still no bun in the oven have your dr run tests to make sure your lining is thickening properly, that was the reason I couldn't stay pregnant. I wish you the best of luck sweetie, there is hope I promise. I'm due in just 6 short weeks 😄

I've been on birth control going on a decade now. Now, I haven't tried to get pregnant, but if there were a major concern about being on birth control "too long" I doubt I could've been put on it at 13 lolKeep in mind that it is a lot harder to conceive than people generally think. On average, even if your timing is perfect you only have a 12-25% chance of conceiving. Give it time

I've heard that it can take up to 12 months to get pregnant after being on depo for a good amount of time...i got pregnant on the depo, so I'm guessing it has alot to do with your body and how it reacts to the birth control...try not to stress it too much though.

The know depo should only be used for about 2 yr while taking calcium supplements bc it can lead to loss of bone density but thats ab it
