Awake for c section?

I had a c section with my son 2 yrs ago. It was emergency due to him being posterior. I was completely knocked out and have no memories of his birth. 😭😭😭 I don’t even remember seeing or holding him until the next morning. 
Is this normal practice? I’m due with baby #2 in April and I’m terrified of having another c section and missing everything again.

I just had a c-section last month. It was done using a spinal block. There was a very slight chance of needing general anesthesia, but my hospital’s policy is to use a spinal block for all scheduled c-sections and only go to general in the event of a true emergency. I remember everything that happened, including getting to see my daughter held up even before the cord was cut - and my husband got to cut the cord in the operating room. As long as I only had the spinal, he could be in the room for delivery. I didn’t have any pain at all until the next day, due to a long acting pain reliever being placed in the spinal just before it was removed. 
Talk with your dr about family friendly/ gentle c-section options if you’d like to see and be able to remember as much as possible.

I don’t see why you had to be knocked out if it wasn’t a big emergency. I had an emergency c section but it wasn’t a rushed one, there’s two different types of emergency, one is where something really bad happens and they need to get the baby out ASAP! The other is where they think it’s best as you are not dilating or something, they just call it an emergency because it’s not planned. I wasn’t knocked out for mine x

I’m a labor and delivery nurse and if the c section is an emergency we automatically put the mom to sleep.

I had the same experience only they tried an epidural first and it didn't work so they had to put me under. I had no other option.

I had an emergency c-section and it was the scariest thing for me. Like they gave me some heavy drugs because I could feel them cutting snd they didn’t have time to wait so they gave me something and I went to Lala land. All I could hear was the monitors beeping slowly and everything was black I think my eye were closed and I couldn’t open them lol. Felt like a weird dream. I could hardly remember what my son looked like when they finished and held him close to me. I went to recovery for two hours and didntget to see my baby but hubby was holding him the whole time while they waited for me. I’m having another csection and this time scheduled I hope for a better experience

I don't think that's normal to be knocked out ... I don't know anyone who has had that and I didn't either. I remember everything ... esp being a little high from all the meds 😂

I had an emergency c section with my twins. My water broke prematurely (33 weeks) I was already 8 cm dilated and Baby A was breech but they got me a spinal and both babies were out within 15 minutes after my water broke (I was in the hospital on bedrest) so I’m pretty sure that’s how most c sections go
