“Spoiling” Children

𝑔𝒶

The term spoiling is obviously subjective but I want to know what people think about this.

Growing up, I rarely received more than what was necessary. I had enough clothing that was never bought off the sale rack. I had all of my toiletry needs, school supplies, food and shelter.

Once I turned 16, I got a job and was then able to go the the movies with friends, buy myself fun food like ice cream (woo!) and be more independent.

Other girls at my school had brand new shoes once a month, hair done, nails done, brand new cars and always had spending money when they didn’t work.

Personally, I think there is a healthy medium. With my son, I want to spoil him within my means and give him what he needs along with things he wants on an occasion. But I also want him to earn things he wants. I want him to learn the value of things and that life isn’t just handed to you.

How do you feel?

* this isn’t really about my son specifically. Just about children in general.
