Sad over having to stop breast feeding
I try not to beat myself up over it, but it just down right sucks and makes me feel horrible to not be able to breastfeed after 3 weeks. My daughter was bottle fed in the NICU for 24 hours, I was not able to nurse her for the 1st time until 18 hours after she was born, and was not able to pump until almost 36 hours after she was born. Clearly, we got off to a bad start. She nursed fine at the hospital and at home until she was 2 weeks old. Eventually, she began to lose weight and I tried every thing to get my supply up. When I pumped, I was only able to get 1/4-3/4oz out of each side. The lactation consultant told me that by 4 weeks, whatever my body was producing was all it ever would. So, I decided to not torture myself for the next week and switch to formula. It absolutely breaks my heart, but I know a fed baby is better than a starving baby.
