bottle feeding for a whole night at 3 weeks old?

I was wondering if it would be okay to bottle feed my 3 week old son for 1 night so I can get some sleep? he's had a great latch since day 1, and i have a very full supply. but he has been cluster feeding the past 2 nights in a row and I just need sleep. He's drank from a bottle once because I needed like 3 hours of sleep and he still takes the boob and he uses a pacifier, I just want to know if going about 8 hours without breastfeeding him will mess him up? thank you.

he needs to cluster feed. it's what regulates your milk. a bottle won't help him sleep longer. babies aren't supposed to sleep that long of stretches. they're supposed to wake often to feed.

try co sleep/ feeding and if possible nap with baby during the day feedings to catch up on sleep.  it's pretty hard to suffocate a breast feeding baby while sleeping. your body will more than likely stay in the same position it is in when you fall asleep. I think the risk of co sleeping is more so for smokers, drinkers, drug abusers and formula fed babies. cuz your body is just not gonna function right if you are doing any of that stuff and formula fed babies tend to sleep longer, so mommas aren't on alert as much cuz their boobs aren't gonna wake them.

It will affect your supply especially that early on. I would say just get up and pump if you don’t want to nurse. Unfortunately 8 hours is a long time to go without doing anything at 3 weeks. It gets better though! My baby is 11 weeks and slept 9 hours last night and I just got up to pump once. From what I’ve heard after 6 weeks you can go longer stretches once supply is established!

The only thing you should be concerned about is that he eats. Regardless of what it is he's eating or how he's getting it. Your child will be fine.

This is what we did during that stage.
I nursed, then pumped and left the fresh bottle with my husband. I went to bed and slept for his long as I could when my husband used the fresh bottle to keep the baby busy. Usually after about five hours, he would bring the baby up to me and I would nurse him again. Then we would all go to bed and I would nurse on demand for the rest of the night. I found that I was much more functional if I could get that one longer chunk of sleep with a full sleep cycle.

I went 5hrs and had my husband bottle feed at that age. Didn’t mess anything up for us. I needed sleep so bad! I actually ended up having a seizure from sleep deprivation and was in the hospital for 2 days. It won’t hurt you if you do it every now and then. My baby is almost 4 months old now and we are going strong! Get some sleep!

As others have said it will effect your supply as baby is establishing it via cluster feeding or as my husband says: ‘baby is ordering her drinks at the bar’ 😂 also your in with a chance of waking with painful breasts! If my daughter sleeps for a little longer then normal at night I wake before her leaking milk with rock hard painful breasts. This time will pass though, promise.

At week 3 I had my husband take baby for 4 hours as I had plenty of milk in the fridge and just needed a break.   When I got up baby was sleeping so I pumped and was able to replace everything baby ate.   I personally wouldn't go 8 hours.  1 it will hurt like hell. 2 you are telling your body you don't need the milk and could cause the cluster feeding to get much worse as baby is trying to build a supply.    Hang in there Mama 3 weeks is prime for growth spurt and it does end.
