Prepare for Birth ? 😱

I am currently 39 weeks and although I am excited, I am also very nervous about what is to come. I am a first time mom & I am curious how did other first timers deal/cope with labor? How do you prepare?

with my first my water broke at 38+4. I got the epidural early due to having a very low pain tolerance and Bp spiking. once I received the epidural I was in pure Bliss with a 12 hr labor. pushed a total of 5 times(including practice pushes)and she was out. my placenta would not detach and my on had to go in and remove with his hands. ended up with a 2nd degree tear. over all it was a great experience. currently 38+3 with my 2nd and hoping she comes soon

I just had my first 2 weeks ago. Honestly, as I look back, it wasn’t that bad. During each contraction I closed my eyes and went to one of my favorite places and tried to visualize the streets and buildings and it helped me get through. And then the whole process was intimidating of course because it was new, but it was also beautiful. You’ll do great! One thing I would recommend is get as much rest as you can now, because once labor gets going and then the baby comes, sleep is hard to come by. Also, try to keep your mind open and don’t get too set on a specific birth plan. Things happen and it helps to be flexible. I really wanted my water to break naturally and they ended up having to break it for me and it made me really upset and I was already upset because it was an emergency induction at 37 weeks for a sudden onset of preeclampsia and yeah that was not what I wanted. But it was still beautiful as I look back. Anyways, it will be great!

Just make sure you are packed, and the seat installed. Make sure you have diapers (and pads for you!) and bra pads on hand, so you have nothing to worry about when you come home.  Then listen to your body, and keep moving as much as you feel comfortable. If you feel like cleaning, use vinegar water, and do it! If you feel like laying around, just stay off your back. I did not know with my first, but there is something called prodromal labor. I was in and out for four weeks. It is normal not to talk through contractions, but try to stay distracted until you can think of nothing between contractions except labor. Then keep moving. I found the most relief when I bounced up and down like I was sitting on a jackhammer during contractions. Good luck, and try not to worry about it too much.

I'm a first time mom to be, and anytime I get worried I just remind myself that my body has known what to do so far and is growing a healthy, happy baby, and will know what to do then! I try to also remember that my doctor has delivered quite a few babies and knows what to do as well. And the fact that I don't have to know everything is reassuring.

Have your bag backed for you and baby. Have your car seat already installed so you’re ready to go. Lots of walking to help move baby where they need to be for birth. You got this!
