Should Elementary Schools be closed if they are under a boil-water advisory?
This is happening (again) in my school district. Two of our Elementary Schools are just a few blocks from the river. When it floods, which has been rare, we have water contamination issues. Last time the district only brought in bottled water for the kitchen to use preparing lunch. They shut off the water fountains. There was conflicting information about whether hand washing was safe. I won’t let my kids use the sinks and I bring them bottled water, but I really think we should be closed. It’s too likely that a kid will drink from the sink or have a cut, but wash their hands. Would you let your kid go to school with no safe water?
