Should child support stop once the child starts earning money?

In England, when a teenager who is under the age of 18 gets an apprenticeship, their parent/guardian is no longer entitled to child support from the other parent or the government. (A teenager has to be 16 and finished high school to get an apprenticeship).
I thought of making this topic because it’s quite relevant in my life right now. My boyfriend (17) has an apprenticeship with the NHS, and his mum no longer gets child support from his dad, so he gives his mum the money instead.
I’m 16 and will be getting an apprenticeship soon, so my Nan won’t be getting the £300 that she usually does, so I will obviously give her the money.
Do you think the parent/guardian should get child support until the child is 18, regardless if they have an apprenticeship or not? What are your reasons?

I think child support should continue until said child is 18. They're still a child and shouldn't be forced into sustaining themselves. The money they work for should be put into savings.

Apprenticeship national living wage is £3.50 p/h no. If you work for 30 hours a week that’s £105 which would barely cover transport, food, uniform and something for yourself. The government has technically done it to save themselves (in your case) £195. It’s wrong. Higher the national minimum living wage or keep the benefits.

I think they should. Money a teenager is getting from a job isn’t livable. It’s great for buying them their own things. It helps teach responsibility too. However, there are many things a parent needs to provide for their child a child shouldn’t be responsible for. There is food, clothes, school supplies, maybe helping out with car insurance, and even health insurance. All of those things a kid should be responsible for. Having that second income from child support is needed to take care of a child. Just because a kid gets a job, it doesn’t mean they can financially make it.

Any money the child earns is extra or savings.it does not negate parental responsibility.

The point of working is to support yourself, so why should child support continue if the person is earning money themselves 🤷🏼‍♀️

Here in Saskatchewan, depending on the lawyers and the agreement, if the paying parent pays child support he pays until that child is done school whether that’s college or high school. If the child plans on going to college the paying parent continues to pay the other parent. If the child is done school after high school then the payments stop.
