Nexplanon weight gain!
In May 2014 I had the nexplanon implant put in, and over the last 3 years I experienced SIGNIFICANT weight gain, over all I gain 100 pounds.
When I first started noticing the extra weight I told my doctor about it and she said that it wasn't from the birth control, that supposedly according to research a very low percent of women experienced weight gain from the implant.
She concluded that it was probably from stress, I was a teen and a single mother so I thought OK maybe she's right and my weight has always fluctuated.
Fast forward to the next year (I didn't have insurance and was going to the health department for my year's visits and BC check ups) I step on the scale and it says I've gain 35lbs. I knew I'd gained weight but wasn't sure how much because I didn't have a scale at home and at that time the excess weight was going to my ass and thighs.
She of course gets onto me claiming that I'm not being healthy, blah blah blah. And when I tell her I haven't changed anything about my routine she doesn't believe me. She does the checkup, tells me to start doing some cardio and sends me on my way.
So over the course of that year I cut back on soda (Dr.pepper was my vice) and started walking laps around the block. However even after cutting out the sodas and exercising I started to gain weight in my abdominal area as well. I was discouraged but stuck with my new routine.
May came around again and again when I stepped on the scale there was the weight gain. I showed my doctor the fitness app I'd downloaded and showed her my logs for the past year. She tried to pacify me but I could tell she didn't believe me. I AGAIN asked if it could be due to the implant and again she said no. I asked if I could go ahead and get it removed and she told me early removal was $200, I of course didn't have that.
After that appointment I said fuck it and quit talking my walks and started drinking mountain dews, because evidently I was going to gain weight any way so why not enjoy my life?
So I was supposed to have the implant removed May of 2017 but I couldn't make the scheduled date and they told me they couldn't see me till December.I asked if I could just have my new primary remove and they said no, that other had to be the same physician. I thought OK whatever its not a big deal it will still expire. I got married in June and in September we decided to TTC.
In November I went to my primary for the first time because I'd gotten strep throat. I stepped on the scale and lo and behold Id reached the 100lb weight gain mark.
My primary of course realized I was massively over weight and set down and went over EVERYTHING with me. She took the implant out that day and told me that it was probably still producing some residual stuff and that's why my periods hadn't regulated and why I more than likely hadn't ovulated.
So now its January 21, and just a few minutes ago I decided to step on the scale before getting in the shower.... According to my scale, since November I've lost 20lbs and the ONLY thing I've done was have that implant removed.
Ladies listen to your bodies! You know yourself better than any doctor ever could and if something doesn't feel right (if possible) seek help else were!
