Colic...Any tips?

My co-workers granddaughter is having real bad colic. Any tips? I’ve been lucky that my kids never suffered from that so I don’t have any good advice for her. She’s 1 month old, on formula. The only thing I did advise was that maybe she needs a formula change.

Tell her to try wearing baby in a wrap. Being upright and against a warm body and thumping heart will calm almost every baby! For sleep make sure you're using a swaddle and white noise

My LO had Colic from 1 wk old until 5 wks old and we tried SOO many things. From what we were told Colic is basically the term used when a baby has unexplained crying for more than 3 hours a day for more than 3 weeks daily. Intestinal Discomfort can be ONE of the causes but not always. We did use gas drops regularly although i'm not sure they helped much. Many ppl recommended switching formula but our Pediatrician did not as he was growing well and drinking well the current formula. He was always much happier when we walked around the house with him. Although exhausting at 2am he stayed quiet and would sometimes fall asleep in our arms and in the long run did not make him dependent on us as he is 6 months old and sleeps all night in his room already.

We did take turns regularly in shifts so we could each sleep for a few hours while the other one was in a diff part of the house with baby.

Also using a pouring rain noise video on youtube worked wonders as it was the only thing he would sleep to for a few weeks, that combines with a bouncer that had vibration worked well for us when he would sleep. In the long run it just had to run its course and it will be over before they know it. It went for 5 weeks then all of a sudden one day he just started sleeping again.

Good luck to your friend, it will end in no time, Colic doesnt usually last for more than a few weeks before it calms down and though it seemed to go slow we look back now and laugh at how desperate we were for some shut eye for those few weeks. We went as far as to run the vacuum cleaner cause he liked the noise and would stop crying for a few minutes!
