Do wall decals damage the walls when you take them off?

Have any of you used wall decals? I am interested in them but we rent right now so I'd need to get a kind that 100% won't damage the walls. What kind did you use and did it damage the walls at all when you took it off?

I've used them and had them up for 7+ years. They came off fine!

I have had them peel off all of the paint when removing them after 6 years. I guess it depends how long you keep them up.

I’ve used vinyl decals a ton and they’ve never damaged the wall or paint.
