Ungraded Produce

There is a small business in NC run by two former Duke students called Ungraded Produce.

Basically, they take the produce from local farms that, cosmetically, aren't up to par, and sell it for a fraction of the price and donate it to shelters.

Thousands of pounds of vegetables go to the landfill because they simply don't look right, and are wasted.

My question is, how do you judge your veggies? Do you leave a banana until it goes bad on the counter because it has a spot? Do you discard a squash because of a dent?

I know that I do, at least from time to time. And I know it's wasteful. But this business is really interesting, and is a great way to help the planet.
